Our five month old baby boy is going through tubs of E45 like nobody's business. It could be the cold snap, therefore more dry air due to more central heating, but I wonder if anyone has any particular suggestions for creams that don't require 24 hr application!!

I might also add that our baby has a little baby eczema for which a 1% hydrocortisone ointment was prescribed by our paediatrician. I know there's some controversy about this stuff but it appears that if used sparingly, it is safe. However, I'm sure the ointments success on clearing up his itchy eczema is only temporary and I don't want to get sucked into depending on it to keep his skin clear. Has anyone had any baby eczema experience and found a long-term way to conquer it?

Here's what we did for our daughter - then 8 months - she'd had eczema for 4 months by then and was scratching to bleeding.

Everything the Gp gave didn't work or made it worse.

1. Cut out bananas. We've slowly reintroduced these since. 2. Oats in the bath water - best to put them in some old tights, so they don't clog the u-bend. 3. Boots Nipple cream with Calendula, they've changed this since, but a Nelson's Calendula cream would do the same job. 4. Homeopathy -different symptoms require different homeopathic treatments. Boots offer a booklet with the most common remedies- I have it handy if needed. We used Sulphur 6c.

This combination cleared her skin in under a fortnight. If she ever starts to break out again, we just do the above and the attack never happens.
